#6 - Critiquing a Media Critic
Chris Stuckmann
As long as there have been movies, there have been critics, whether a film has received positive or negative feedback. Everyone has opinions on whether a movie is good or bad, suitable for kids, worthy of another viewing, or deserving of an Oscar. However, not everyone can critique media or film professionally. Some movie critics have a talent for recommending films and giving precise and honest reviews, such as YouTuber and film critic, Chris Stuckmann.
When researching media critics, Chris was mentioned often as being an influential critic on Youtube. Chris is the author of The Film Buff's Bucket List, which lists the fifty movies of the 2000s that you must see before you die. He also wrote an anime book titled Anime Impact: The Movies and Shows that Changed the World of Japanese Animation. He joined YouTube in 2011, and since has cumulated around seven hundred million views and two million subscribers.
Chris reviews TV shows along with movies. Most recently, he reviewed the newly released film The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I like how Chris criticized the movie with an open mind. He acknowledges that the film is a good family film, and put a smile on his face. However, he wouldn't say it was absolutely amazing. He praises the film while stating how it falls short leaving room for audiences to view the film and form their own opinions.
Chris has reviewed other family-friendly films and even some on the darker side. What makes a critic great is honesty, and Chris doesn't hold back what he is thinking about the films he watches. Also, it is more entertaining when you can tell a critic loves what they do. It is evident that Chris loves film, and has for a long time.
I enjoyed watching Chris' videos. I can agree with his assessment on several, especially his review of The Fabelmans. He makes several of the same points I made in my previous assignment. If you are unsure of a movie and want to make sure not to waste your time, I recommend checking out Chris' channel. His videos consist of concise, honest, and trustworthy reviews.
